Recycling Steel for a Greener World

The Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) revolutionized steel production, making it the most recycled metal globally. It's a key player in reducing emissions and boosting circular economy benefits.

The Challenge of EAF Dust (EAFD)

EAFD, produced at 1–3% of steel output, has long been a concern due to its chemical content. Past options like landfill were costly and offered no return.

Zinc Recovery with the Waelz Process

EAFD contains 15–30% zinc, much of it from galvanized scrap. The Waelz Process transforms this waste into Waelz Zinc Oxide (WOx), a valuable industrial input.

Waelz Kiln Technology

A 50+ meter rotary kiln treats the dust under controlled conditions. Zinc vapors are collected, while iron remains inert—creating WOx ready for reuse in steel, ceramics, rubber, paint, and more.
