SARRALLE Processing Lines is proud to announce the Acceptance of the Recoiler revamping project for OUTOKUMPU (Finland).

SARRALLE provided a revamping turnkey solution including the design and manufacture of the recoiler for the RAP5 line in Tornio (Finland), along with the erection and commissioning supervision of the same.

RAP5 is the main continuous Processing Line in OUTOKUMPU Tornio plant. The scope consisted on revamping the existing recoiler and replacing the mandrel due to existing problems. 

The SARRALLE bespoke engineering led to a new SARRALLE mandrel design to avoid any defects in the strip during recoiling, reducing the percentage of rejection and over cost of defective cold-rolled strip. On addition, the maintenance and ease of use of the same will improve, lowering the downtime of the replacement of the mandrel in any shutdown.

The execution of the project was performed at record-breaking speed to support the scheduled appointment of the annual stoppage of the client. The work was awarded on June and the start-up happened 5 months later, in November to be precise. The existing mandrel was dismantled in one day and the erection and commissioning of SARRALLE designed mandrel took 5 days. After 8-10 weeks of probation period, we can verify that failures had no place.

In this case, the most recent recoiled and mandrel projects took place with steel legends such as ARCELORMITTAL, APERAM, TATA STEEL, THYSSENKRUPP, JSW, SAIL… as well as with smaller stainless-steel service centres in Spain and Europe.

SARRALLE proporcionó una solución llave en mano de revamping incluyendo diseño y fabricación del enrollador para la línea RAP5 en Tornio (Finlandia), junto con la supervisión de montaje y puesta en marcha del mismo.

RAP5 es la principal línea de procesamiento continuo en la planta de OUTOKUMPU Tornio. El alcance consistió en modernizar el enrollador existente y reemplazar el mandril debido a problemas existentes.

La ingeniería a medida de SARRALLE condujo a un nuevo diseño de mandrino SARRALLE para evitar cualquier defecto en la banda durante el desbobinado, reduciendo el porcentaje de rechazo y el sobrecoste de la banda defectuosa laminada en frío. Además, se mejorará el mantenimiento y facilidad de uso del mismo, disminuyendo el tiempo de inactividad en la sustitución del mandrino en cualquier parada.

La ejecución del proyecto se realizó a una velocidad récord para realizarla en la parada de mantenimiento programada. La obra se adjudicó en junio y la puesta en marcha se produjo 5 meses después, concretamente en noviembre. El mandril existente se desmanteló en un día y el montaje y la puesta en servicio del mandril diseñado por SARRALLE se realizó en 5 días. Después de 8-10 semanas de período de prueba, podemos verificar que no se dió lugar a ningún defecto.
